Mood Hat Live!

by Anton Barbeau

Popsong 99 04:04
Banana Song 04:22
Bible Beater 03:39

A scrappy collection of songs recorded on Minidisk in Sacramento and LA, 1999-2000. I believe there are four venues represented on Mood Hat - Cafe Milazzo, SereniTea and Luna's in Sacramento, and somewhere in West Hollywood that I've forgotten the name of. I was releasing records on Frigidisk at the time and the Luna's and LA gigs were album launch gigs with the Solipsistics. My live shows and my albums have never seemed to have anything to do with each other, and I'd had requests from time to time to release a live album. While I had great fun with the cut'n'paste aspect of Mood Hat, making no effort towards the pretense of presenting a single concert, I do think it paints a probable picture of what a live Ant gig might sound and feel like in them particular days. The fact that I don't cringe when I hear it means... well, I'm not sure what that means. Anyway, in the spirit of "well, why not?", here's a dusty old live album for you! Hope you dig!

P.S. - this is a pretty trippy headphone album, it has to be said!

released January 1, 2000

The "mood hat" was a fuzzy brown hat I used to have that glowed purple in the right light. I haven't been able to track down the original artwork for this release and have instead grabbed an "album cover worthy" pic taken at a recent gig in Madrid. I'm trying to sort out who took the pic and will update the credits when I do! Anyway, picture me with much shorter hair, better posture and a fuzzier hat. Otherwise, I haven't changed at all!
