about

In shocking contrast to the psychedelic coloUrfest that was 2006's In The Village Of The Apple Sun, this album, The Automatic Door, released the following year, was meant to be my commercial breakthrough. This album scored me a publishing contract and English and French record deals. The title track was even in a lame YouTube clip that went viral, hitting something like 6 million views before being pulled down. In spite of expectation and sudden viral vibe, Automatic Door didn't do well the way we all thought it would. But if the world sees one now as Syd Floyd II and one shows up for Halloween dressed as 2/3rds of Crowded House, one shouldn't be surprised if everyone else seems surprised!

International stardom aside, it was fab making a whole record with Su Jordan. Our vocal chemistry was a proper Thing. We did well in Oxford and started grumbling our way to London, Brighton, Cambridge, the Secret Garden Festival and various etcs in-between. As a duo, we didn't really survive long enough to finish our second album, Solitary Bees, so it became another Ant-billed record, Plastic Guitar. Billions later, I'm very happy I was able to get Su singing on Manbird before Pandemic 2020 closed down the shop of the world.
