about

All DX-7, all the time! Long story, but my very first girlfriend didn't seem to like the sweet pop song I'd written in her honor (and to be fair, after digging it up a few years back, I cannot blame her one bit!), so I re-wrote it with a sarcastic twang and recorded it in my best Muzak stylee using only the dreaded Yamaha DX-7. (OK, there's a touch of real backwards piano, but who's counting?) Another long story, but I bought the DX-7, like a billion others at the time thinking it was going to save my soul. Kinda hated that thing from the start, and when I had the chance to trade it in for a dusty old unwanted Prophet 5 (rev 2, bitches!), I jumped. The guys at the music store were concerned I was making an unsound choice, and out of guilt, they even threw in a Roland TR-707. My P5 finally died and at the time I couldn't afford to fix it. A great regret. Funny enough, I kinda miss the DX-7, though not really.

Oh yeah - remember Tommy Tutone? "867-5309?" The singer, Tommy Heath, was really into this track and wanted to cover it. Don't think that ever happened, but huh, right?
